7 reasons why you should play Starcraft II right now.

Hello everyone and welcome to another Vikings guide article!

Over the past few years I have struggled to find a competitive game that is both challenging and fun. Not too easy but not too hard to get into either. A game that is old enough to give me a warm feeling when thinking of my early days of gaming when I went out with friends and played Free-for-all Starcraft Broodwar and we had a blast!

Why you should give Starcraft II a chance?

Here are just a few of the many reasons:

1. Starcraft II : Legacy of the Void is one of the few games where you don't have the chance to blame your team mates for losing.

That's right! Being an RTS game, Starcraft II : Legacy of the Void puts you in charge of developing your economy , building up an army and finding the best strategy possible to overcome your oponent.
There are no teams in this game , there is no one else but you and your base versus your oponent. I think that for many gamers out there, this is both a blessing and a curse. When you are responsible for everything that happens in the game you can carry yourself to victory but also allow for a bitter defeat!

However, if we compare the Starcraft II experience with any other popular game out there, we will reach the same conclusion: being a 1v1 game, there is no chance for toxicity versus other players. Unless you are a very sore loser and decide to flame your oponent. Looking at it from this perspective I would dare to say it encourages a responsible aproach to gaming where every player takes it upon themselves to not make mistakes that could cost them the game.

2. Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void is completely free-to-play.

In it's early days , Starcraft II was not a game anyone could enjoy. Nowadays it is a free-to-play game that you and your friends can enjoy to the fullest. Of course there are campaigns that you need to purchase but those campaigns do not affect in any way your Ladder experience.

As a free-to-play player , all you need to do to unlock the Ranked feature or Ladder as it is most often referred to , is to get 10 victories in 10 different days. But this does not stop you from playing unranked to your heart's content. Or even play the thousands of fun game modes in the Arcade. Or play the original Wings of Liberty campaign.

3. Starcraft II : Legacy of the Void has one of the best communities I have ever seen.

Perhaps because it is a game that is mostly suited for responsible people or perhaps because it is one of the oldest games that kept it's appeal to gamers , Starcraft II currently has the best communities out there.
You can take a look for yourself on the streaming platform Twitch and open any of the top streams and  you find genuinely nice people that love the game and would love to teach you how to play it or answer any other questions related to it .

In fact I had the most interactions over Twitch with Starcraft II streamers. Which in itself is very strange considering the game is a fast paced real time strategy game that requires your full attention at all times - these people actually manage to win games and have quality interactions with their viewers.

4. Blizzard Entertainment is continuously improving the game and balance for competitive play and you can enjoy it all for free!

As mentioned before , if you do not want to pay a penny for this game you don't have to!
The game is being updated regularly , moderated with anti-cheat software , checked and patched for balanced play so regardless of the race you choose to play you will have a great time knowing that this game is backed by this Giant of the Gaming Industry that is also behind names like Diablo, World of Warcraft , Warcraft I  , II and III , Hearthstone , Heroes of the Storm etc.

5. Stacraft II is easy to get into but very difficult to master.

But fear not ! I have went ahead and found a plethora of guides , build orders , youtube videos , a huge database on Teamliquid.net. All you need to do is want to improve and you will have all the tools you need to do so.
You can even get a coach from the above mentioned twitch streamers.

6. The competitive scene is in the best shape ever .

If we look at games like League of Legends , Counter-Strike , Dota 2 - all of them have something in common - The competitive scene is dominated by Korean teams. Starcraft II was no different until recently when Serral , a Finnish player took the world by surprise by taking down the best players in the GSL and winning the last GSL versus The World Competition.

Serral winning the GSL vs The World
It is very important to note that the GSL is one of the most prestigious Starcraft II circuit in Korea and only the best of the best players compete in it.

Why do I think the competitive scene is looking awesome right now? Because for the past 20 years , the Korean players have dominated the scene , taking first place in all major tournaments that they have competed in. Now it seems that the balance of power is slowly shifting to have a more spectacular clash between all the regions of the globe when taking on the Blizzcon competition.

7. You can enjoy the Ladder with your friends.

Even if the game is at it's best when played 1v1 , the Ranked System in Starcraft II allows you to enjoy it in different formats such as 2v2, 3v3 and even 4v4 on different maps suited for the number of players .

The beauty of this is you are still playing the same game but there are different metas for all of the game modes and there is basicly an infinite ammount of approaches you can have to the game all this in the company of your friends for the most amazing competitive games you will ever play in any game.

I am sure there are many more reasons you can find when you discover and play this game for why it is so awesome.
Ever since I've seen it announced I have wanted to play it , stream it , share it with others and enjoy it to the fullest. Unfortunately I was unable to do so because my PC cannot stream anything so the best way I found to support the Starcraft II scene and community was to write this article and hopefully convince some of my readers that this game is truly worth their while.
I am really looking forward to meeting some of you on the Ladder

By the way I am currently torn between Terran and Zerg , which race do you enjoy playing? Answers in the comments below , don't forget to leave a like , and share this with your friends!

Untill Next Time!
